How to create a free Minecraft server with friends
Join NodeCrest, create your own world from the lobby and invite your friends. You don’t need to install server software or configure port forwarding.
You need Minecraft: Java Edition and a Minecraft account that can join multiplayer servers. Website sign-in is separate from joining the game.
Join NodeCrest in Minecraft: Java Edition
- Launch Minecraft: Java Edition and open Multiplayer.
- Choose Add Server. The server name can be NodeCrest.
- Enter
play.nodecrest.comas the server address. - Save the server, select it and choose Join Server.
You’ll arrive in the NodeCrest lobby. This shared lobby is where you open the controls for your own server.
Create your private Minecraft world
Open the Server Menu in the lobby. Choose the option to create your server, select one of the available Minecraft versions and confirm. Follow the status shown in the menu while the world prepares, then join when it is ready.
The free option includes one active server at a time. You create and start it in Minecraft; the website is there for your account, progress and linked-world tools.
Choose a version offered by the live menu. If Minecraft reports a version mismatch, check your selected client version before reconnecting.
Invite friends to play on your server
Your friends connect to play.nodecrest.com too. Use the in-game friends controls to approve them, then have them join your world while you’re online. You can also use an in-game party to bring players into your session.
You don’t need to share your home IP address or change your router settings. Keep invitations to people you trust and follow the NodeCrest community rules.
Meet players in our Discord communityLog in and link your Minecraft account
Open the NodeCrest login page and choose email, Discord or Minecraft. Discord is simply another way to continue, and isn’t required. New players can create an account from the same page.
The Discord community checkbox is optional. Leaving it checked requests membership when you approve Discord access. Uncheck it if you only want to sign in. You can also join the Discord community directly.
After signing in, follow the Minecraft linking instructions shown in your account. Linking lets NodeCrest connect your website account to your in-game identity and show your world, progress and available account tools in the Player Hub.
Before you get stuck
- Can I play from Bedrock Edition?
- These instructions are for Minecraft: Java Edition. Don’t assume the Java address works with Bedrock or a console edition.
- Do I have to join Discord to play?
- No. Community membership is optional. Connect through Minecraft to create and play on your server.
- Does the server stay online when nobody is playing?
- Free worlds stop after 15 minutes of inactivity. Start yours again through the in-game controls. An idle shutdown does not delete the world; see the terms for the wider storage and account rules.
- Can I download my world?
- Linked owners can request a world export through the Player Hub. Wait for it to finish before downloading your copy.
- What if joining or creating a world fails?
- Double-check the server address and your Minecraft version. Check network status, then ask for help on Discord or contact support. Include the error you see, never a password or login token.
